Country Home Decor

Your house is finally spick and span and you sit down and put your feet up for a minute with a nice cup of coffee by the side of you and you pick away at your cake. You are worn out but it’s that good kind of tired when you know you’ve done a good day’s work and you have no regrets about it. A feeling of contentment settles on you and you look around you with satisfaction.

A magazine lies appealingly within reach and you give in and pull it towards you, intending to enjoy your well-earned rest. The main cover story jumps right out at you, called Country Home Decor. Naturally you flip through eagerly to that very section, you had just seen an article on turning your house into a small country haven in another magazine and you were interested.

There are pages and pages of the magazine filled with what can only be categorized as the most ideal examples of country home decor imaginable. You gaze longingly at the various styles and furnishings you see gracing the magazine’s pages. A quick glance up from your magazine reassures you that your own modest home hasn’t changed somehow instantly into one of those lovely country homes you were just admiring.

A heavy sigh passes your lips at the disappointment and so you go back to reading the magazine article. You had never thought that you were the sort of person who could stand the country home decor style but now upon reflection you think you just might be able to.

Now without your even realising it, you start marking the pages that fascinate you the most, doing small maths calculations on how best to create the same effect but on the more modest budget that you have to spend. After all, it just wouldn’t do to fork out for that lovely Welsh dresser and have to go without your freshly ground whole bean coffee, would it?

However, you could certainly go for that beautiful table runner without any problem. And if you donated all those modern chrome coffee mugs and dinner sets to charity you wouldn’t really be splashing out, would you, since you would’ve done your best for charity and donated all these things unselfishly?

What about swapping your snazzy blinds for something that’s a bit more in the country home decor style, and while you’re at it perhaps you could even swap that ugly lampshade you got as a Christmas gift for something a little more country.

The only thing that is left for you to do now is to lie back and enjoy the fruits of your labours and gaze with open pride upon your newly redecorated home. Furnished, naturally enough, in the best country home decor style that you could obtain from every source that you came across, like that first magazine which spurred it all off way back then.

Porsche 977

A new Porsche 911 is always intriguing because it’s exciting to see how after more than 40 years of improvement the Porsche team still manages to bring changes and advancements to this iconic model.

The new 997 combines the silky contemporary appearance of the 996 series with the popular retro styling of the older 911’s. The front end is completed with round lights and separate parking/fog/indicator lights. This modification, combined with wider hips resembles the last of the air-cooled 911’s, the 993. Other changes in the body shell are the new door handles, wing mirrors and the trendy cut of the rear wings into the bumper/lights.

Even if the 997 looks a lot like the preceding model, the 996, the new car is in point of fact 38mm wider which makes for a more forceful look. With each new model brought out, Porsche has tried to reduce the drag co-efficient helping the 911 glide through the air more efficiently thereby aiding performance. The same thing has been done with the new car, and if we compare the 993 Cd of 0.34 to the 997`s 0.28, we can see how far the aerodynamic game has moved on. The latest body shell and rear wing combine with new under body paneling to also offer increased levels of down force for this latest evolution of Porsche’s best.

The latest Porsche model has the best handling 911 ever. Improving a car’s firmness helps make certain that the suspension can work more efficiently and although not making such a quantum leap as the team did with the 996, Porsche improved torsional rigidity by 8% and added as much as 40% more strength.

For their new model car, Porsche sought to enhance crash safety provisions so they added two new air bags, which are located in the side of each front seat back-rest and are designed to protect the thorax. They also retained the earlier two front and two side airbags, which means that now there are six air bags in total. For the same reason, that is crash safety, the toughened body shell features further protection such as a more extensive use of super high strength steel.

The most recent model is also 50 kg heavier than the 996. The reason is that current crash safety regulations kind of force vehicle manufacturers to produce new cars of increased weight, despite the widespread use of a large range of weight saving measures, such as an aluminum bonnet.

Aside from the crash safety improvements, much of the increased weight can be attributed to the higher standard specifications of the new cars. The power to weight ratio is similar with the latest car offering 233 bhp per tonne against it’s predecessors 238 but the new model’s improved aerodynamics must help it achieve Porsche’s claimed performance figures, which are identical to those of the 996.

Trains In Seattle Bring Out The Inner Child

Boys and girls of all ages love trains and train sets. They have played a very important part in the history of this country and Seattle, Washington and the Northwest in particular. In deed, the roles of trains in this part of the country have in the past been so vital that there are a few museums devoted to them. Trains were essential lifelines for the people here for many years. While their importance seems to be diminishing in today’s society, their importance throughout the history of our country remains.

If you really are a train enthusiast, then it should not be hard to talk you into stopping by Seattle’s Train Center before and after touring the museums devoted to trains and their importance in history. The Train Center offers a wide selection of model train parts and pieces that would make excellent additions to your train set or a great beginning for a train set for you or your kids.

After you’ve whetted your enthusiasm for trains and gotten your child all excited about them, it is time to take a walk back in time to the Northwest Railway Museum. There you can learn about railway history or even choose to take a ride on one of the trains that departs on several tours throughout the day. Most of the excursions are 65-75 minutes long and are a great extravagance for young and old alike. Perhaps the best thing about this museum is that its main objective is to educate the public about the important role that railroads had in the growth of this part of the country.

If you’re really interested in sharing your love for trains with the ones you love, you may consider taking a spin on the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train. This is a great way to not only get the experience of riding the rails but to take in some of the beautiful Washington scenery and have a gourmet meal in the process. During the months of November through to April up to two children may ride free with a paying adult.

There are certain limitations on the type of seating, but it is a great way to enjoy the experience at a greatly reduced price. There are also exclusive events such as Murder Mystery Trains and Magic and Illusion shows in addition to certain holiday events as well. Be sure to check out what is going on while you are visiting Seattle and see if this is something that might interest you and your family.

If you are up for a not so short drive to Pasco (about three and a half hours from Seattle), you might find the Washington State Railroads Historical Society Museum well worth the journey. Be sure to remember that the museum is only open on Saturday and that the hours are restricted so this is a journey you need to plan in advance. The greatest thing about this museum to me is the fact that there are lovely little stories, like the blackboard that recorded the first snowfall at the depot each year and others such as this.

It is the short stories that do not necessarily make history that do make lasting impressions and I am glad to see this particular story is being shared. Just remember, when visiting any of these depots, museums, and train tours that you definitely must bring your inner child with you in order to enjoy them as you should.

Shower Curtains in Fabric

Once upon a time, fabric shower curtains went the way of the dodo and glass shower doors became fashionable. But, like most fads, common sense regained control and the fashions of yesterday have come around full circle. You’ll now find that fabric shower curtains are all the rage once again and are readily available most at stylish home decor stores.

However, don’t dump your old glass doors just yet either. The convenience and sophisticated look of the glass doors seem to be firmly established in some quarters. True blue die-hards of the glass doors will swear by these and will even sometimes be ready to lay down their reputations for them.

You’ll find, when discussing fabric shower curtains, that their owners are laid back and will smile when asked about their preferences. Naturally, they’ll defend their fabric shower curtains but they also admit to seeing the advantages of glass shower doors as well. No dripping from the bottom of the curtain, no constantly damp curtain folds that need to be separated out each morning in order to prevent mildew.

Most convenient of all, is the easy cleaning afforded by glass shower doors. However, as the fans of fabric shower curtains will also tell you, glass doors have their disadvantages too, the biggest of which being that if you permit the cleaning of the doors to go for even one week, stains will begin to form along the sides where they’re fixed to the wall and some of these seem to have a much stronger will than you do.

And if you don’t perform a good regular cleaning of the glass shower doors, your otherwise nice clean bathroom will start to look rather grubby. The reason though why fabric shower curtains are an all time favourite of many people in the know, is for just one reason and one reason only. This is also what leads these people to have a smug grin on their faces even after they’ve just spent the last half hour sponging their bathroom. Fabric shower curtains are disposable and therefore can be changed easily.

Yes, that’s the one whopping big reason why fabric shower curtains continue to be a firm favourite of a lot of people. Have you ever tried changing your glass doors on a regular basis? It just won’t happen and its doubtful if it will ever happen for a few years, unless that is you take a hammer to it.

So, now you understand the reason for that mysterious smile and why fabric shower curtains never really went out of style. Convenience, more convenience and still more convenience. So if you’re considering of swapping from your glass shower doors to the more convenient, disposable fabric shower curtains don’t be put off.

Once you remove those doors, your life is bound to become easier, and if it’s not, just swap one set of fabric shower curtains for new ones. If nothing else it’ll make you feel a bit better!

Christmas Shopping Tactics

Christmas shopping can be seen as an unqualified thrill or as a necessary evil. It is a thrill to be out and about amid the sights and sounds of the time of year and the jovial crowds. But for the same reasons, others fear shopping at Christmas time. These days, you do not need to leave your home much or at all to get your Christmas and holiday shopping done. That is because the Internet puts shopping at your fingertips and rather than competing with traditional retail stores, the Internet has actually expanded the aptitude of traditional stores to sell more merchandise to a bigger number of people in a larger number of places.

Both large and small retailers can be found at their dedicated Web sites on the Internet. Most will also offer items that can be found in the store. However, online retail sites will often have additional items for sale, or access to additional items, that are not yo be found in the store.

Another benefit of shopping on the Internet is that it gives admission to stores situated anywhere in the world. It has consequently become easier to order a unique gift from a niche or specialty boutique store in locations that you otherwise would not be able to reach. It is also easy to do comparison shopping using ’shop bots’ or simply by comparing prices yourself.

If Christmas shopping is done through the Internet, you have to pay careful attention to the order times and any cut-off dates to get an item delivered in time for Christmas. Based on anticipated volume, most sites will give a date or the number of hours within which orders have to be confirmed for assured delivery of the items before Christmas.

The precinct is a popular place for traditional Christmas and holiday shopping. Malls offer one-stop shopping and have a huge variety of merchandise, which can reduce the tedious searching of dozens of stores for some exclusive item. The stores will also be delightfully decorated for Christmas, have splendid displays and a Santa Claus to interrelate with children. These and other activities that are usually at the precinct during Christmas and the holidays also make them an interesting place to take children to take pleasure in some of the season’s delights.

To maximum benefit from shopping at the precinct, you will need to know the differences between the precinct department stores. You will need to find out which stores have exclusive brands, which stores are moderately priced and which are more up-market.

There are also the specialty stand-alone stores and spinoff store branches for children and adolescents that seek to fill a specific niche. As an example, stores have emerged that carry only styles related to hip-hop culture or styles that have an ‘urban’ look. So it may be worthwhile commencing your shopping at a specialty store, because they are more targetted, and then continue onto a department store that has a wider assortment.

Another fascinating place to shop in precincts are the stand-alone kiosks that are often located at intervals in the open areas of a precinct where there is a lot of foot traffic. These kiosks are more likely to carry one-of-a kind items, which can inspire ideas for Christmas presents.

Also at precincts will be specialized shops that offer home/household products, books, music and movies, electronics, sports gear and shoes.

All of the types of precinct stores previously mentioned can also be found at Outlet or Factory Precincts or Warehouses, which offer lower prices. These stores often carry clearance items from their associated precinct store, merchandise with minor flaws and merchandise that is made for the outlet. Those items of merchandise frequently have slight style variations from what is found in precinct stores and may also be made from different materials.

A final place to consider for Christmas shopping is city center businesses. They are frequently small and intimate, have unique offerings and offer more personalized assistance. Although downtown businesses are also likely to be crowded at Christmas time, there is likely to be less of a crush of people than that found at themalls.

The Martial Art of Aikido

The sphere of Martial Arts is one of the most important contributions of Asia to the world. Who will forget Bruce Lee and the fact that he was first and foremost a martial arts competitor before becoming a movie star? Martial arts pictures are a huge hit with the ever-increasing popularity of Asian cinema like ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ and more recently ‘The House of the Flying Daggers’.

The Chinese are the first nation that come to mind when it you think of these things, but the Japanese are equally as athletic with a rich tradition of body contact sports in their history. Modern Japan still gives honor to the martial arts by holding tournaments and promoting their sports around the world,

One of these is Aikido. It is interesting to realize that the word comes from three Japanese characters from which one derives the meaning of the one word. Ai signifies ‘joining’, Ki signifies ’spirit’ and Do means ‘way’. From this we can understand why Aikido lies beyond only the physical skills of it students, especially since its first proponent, Ueshiba, focused on the spiritual and philosophical improvement of his students.

In Aikido, one is not taught violence instead, one is trained to be in concord with the opponent so that you are able to defeat him more easily. This might appear strange but it actually works. In attacking an opponent, the goal of the Aikido practitioner is to be one with the opponent so as to be able to attack him where he is weakest and in so doing, divert or put him out of action, but never to kill him.

This is where Aikido becomes an art form. Art is something beautiful to look at and something positive and Aikido is all that. At least one of the people involved in the combat is searching for harmony and concord can only be achieved if there is elegance in the actions. The moves may be calculated, but there is an air of elegance in performing these movements. Not a feminine grace, but a grace that emanates peace. The ‘art of peace’ is what they call it in Aikido and it is one of the most affirmative influences of Aikido on its students and to everyone else who chooses to learn about this Japanese martial art.

Some of the techniques in Aikido embrace the following.

Ikkyo is the first technique. Using this technique, you direct an adversary by using one hand to hold his elbow and one to hold near the wrist. This action is supposed to allow you to pin your opponent down to the ground.

Nikyo, the second technique, is when you perform a wrist lock which enables you to twist the arm of your opponent which will in turn cause nerve pressure.

Sankyo, the third technique, is a technique that creates upward-spiraling tension throughout the arm, elbow and shoulder. There are many other techniques but the first three are enough to give you a basic insight.

When learning Aikido, it is important to remember that, together with building physical strength, you will need to improve your mind to be able to defeat your adversary. Just like in any art form, it takes a lot of training and discipline to reach the summit of the art of Aikido. The important thing to remember is, that anyone who wants to get into the art, should have the resolve to give honor to the art by performing it in the best way possible.

Barry, South Wales: Ancient History: Part 3

Barry Castle belonged to William de Barri in the 12th. Century, but was destroyed by Llewellyn Bren in 1316. Some say it was later rebuilt and used by the Cavaliers only to be destroyed again by the Roundheads, never to be reconstructed.

The Norman invaders were thoroughly detested by the local people and they had to build large mansions to defend themselves from frequent assaults on them by the people of the valleys and the mountains. During the reign of Henry III, there were 12 castles within six miles of Barry. In Glamorgan, there were 30 castles and in South Wales as a whole there were 150 !

Porthkerry and its church which lies on the wooded hill to the west of it are said to have taken their name from Ceri, who, in turn, is said to have founded a port there, ie ‘Port Ceri’. People say that Ceri ap Caid, the King of Essyllwg, lived in Porthkerry before the Christian era and that his bard, Corvinor, was the first to build a ship with sails and a rudder for the ‘race of Cymru’. Some believe that Ceri was a nephew or grandson of Caractacus (Caradog) and that he took over the leadership of the government in South Wales when Caractacus had to journey to Rome.

John Wesley later preached from the Porthkerry Church pulpit, and sometimes outside, in 1741, 1742 and 1743. There are two very old churches still in use today St. Cadocs Church in Cadoxton and Merthyr Dyfan Church in Merthyr Dyfan. 150 years ago, Cadoxton was the largest village in the area: eg in 1844 the Parliamentary register contained 25 names: 20 from Cadoxton and five from Barry. The church was dedicated to St. Cadoc, who used to spend Lent on Flat Holm and Barry Island. The village took its name from the church, which was founded in 800 AD.

Merthyr Dyfan Church, situated in the north of Barry, was founded in 600 AD and the name means Dyfan The Martyr. There were two saints of this name: one journeyed to Barry to convert the inhabitants to Christianity; the second lived in the Sixth Century and was the son of a Welsh chieftain. His sister was also martyred and the town of Merthyr Tydfil is named after her.

The Christian faith grew very quickly in the Vale of Glamorgan and in the middle of the second century, the Prince of Siluria, Llewrwg, became the first king, of any country in the world in all history, to be baptized into the Christian faith. He sent to Rome for more Chritian teachers and was sent two monks named Dyfan and Fagan. Dyfan was martyred near the church and the Fagan was canonized. St. Fagan’s situated between Barry and Cardiff was named after him.

Discount Home Decor

If you’re redecorating your home, naturally you’ll want only the best materials. However, often you’ll find that the best is also expensive as well. Unfortunately, most of us can’t afford to splash out on these finer things in life, especially if we’re in the process of redecorating our homes.

That’s where the many discount home decor stores will come to your assistance. In these stores, you’ll find that you can sometimes witness a miracle and find that you can actually get those finer things at a great discount.

Some of the best discount home decor can be found at your local department stores. That’s probably the last place you’d think to look for discounts but if you get the timing right, seasonal sales will drive the prices down to match discount store prices. Nothing gets better than that, especially if you don’t really want to spend hours going around looking for discount stores or warehouses.

Which, naturally enough, brings us to our next discount home decor stop: discount warehouses. In these you’re presented with a wide range of choice from which you can purchase your discount home decor and fittings. These large warehouse stores are ideal if you don’t mind taking the time to browse a bit.

Be careful though, because if you buy from these discount warehouses, you’re quite likely to see your perfect picture hanging in your neighbour’s house as well. You should also go prepared to keep a tight grasp on your wallet as some of the items will simply demand to be bought. In this case, you’ll find your new discount home decor items have multiplied substantially more in number than what you originally went in the warehouse to buy.

Another good method, and one which I constantly use, is the Internet discount stores. Just type in the words “Discount Home Decor” into any Internet search engine and it will yield such a magnitude of results that you might even become inundated.

The best way to deal with this is just to look through a few of the returned results and find a store that you like. As you go along, you can always cull the most of the stores and find ones that suit your requirements more exactly.

The Internet option is also good if you decide to look through your local department store’s Internet listings as well. Many times you’ll find a variety of items at discount store prices that you wouldn’t get at the store itself.

Delivery of your discount home decor items purchased over the Internet is also very low and sometimes even free, if you spend over a certain amount of money.

Any or all of these methods is a great way to begin your redecorating project and you’ll find that, with only a little effort and thought on your part, you can find discount home decor items that will not only suit your budget but which will also suit your home, and ultimately, that’s all that really matters, isn’t it?

Golfing Tips for Beginners: 5

‘Drive for show, but putt for dough’ is the phrase we’ve all seen and learned from watching professional golfers in every tournament and championship either live or on TV.

The champions of golf can drive a ball from here to kingdom-come, but it all comes down to how many strokes it takes to get the ball in the hole. The long accurate drives don’t mean anything if you’re unable to putt accurately.

Choosing a putter is very important, but using whatever putter you have consistently is even more so. I’ve had the same putter for fifteen years: I know what it feels like in my hand; I know it’s weight; I know how that plays into my putts.

Putting takes a lot of practice. Typically, we drive the ball eighteen times in a game, but putt at least double that number. So doesn’t it stand that we should practice our putting at least twice as much as driving? If you can’t get to the practice green regularly, just practice on your carpet at home.

Bear in mind that the ball can not make it to the hole, if it doesn’t have enough power behind it to get it in there. So, take the time to get down on your knees and look at the path from your ball to the hole. Does it slope one way or the other? Does it run uphill or downhill?

So, stand with your feet spread apart for balance and line up the putt. Keep you hands, arms and shoulders completely still. Imagine that you are a “bobble head” but that you move from just below your chest. Keep your head directly over the ball. Pull your club back; keep your hands, wrists, arms and shoulders steady - the movement comes from your chest. Hit the ball, following the ball through with your club.

Try to learn from each putt and remember the lesson. Practice, practice, practice!

Are you a rookie to golfing?? We have some great our website at tips for the beginner golfer on our website at Golfing Tips for Beginners Get a totally unique version of this article from our article submission service

Speed Reading - Where Do You Start?

No one really knows when speed reading was first used, but it might have been a long while in the past. For hundreds of years, reading was the privilege of a minority of the most highly-educated people in the world, the overwhelming majority of whom were monks and priests. This small, select group of men protected their privilege and were loathe to coach the general populace to read. Furthermore, during those hundreds of years there were relatively few books to read compared with today. Books were also very costly as they all had to be copied out by hand. Possibly the only fact that has not altered is that the Bible was the most common book in existence and even now the Bible is the most prevalent book.

The world is quickly becoming a place where individuals are slowly but surely giving up on books and becoming fixed in front of monitors or television screens. In such a world, parents must not ignore the importance of developing a zeal for reading in themselves and their children. Reading is a habit that should be established when the child is fairly young, so what can you do to engender this habit?

Well, there are several strategies you can employ, although one of the best to lead by example. Read with your child every day, even if its only for 10-15 minutes. Allow your child to see you reading. By this I mean, don’t only read in bed before you go to sleep, but instead of watching television from time to time and read your children a bed-time story. Encourage them to read too. You could also:

Register your child for reading classes, if you really don’t have much time or your child is a little slow at reading. There are many well-structured after school reading classes that aim to make books more attractive to children. They help children with articulation, sayings and metaphors. These classes can be fun with animated characters and pictures, especially for young children,. They often make use of picture books, nursery rhymes, comical songs and short stories to fire up the imagination of younger children.

You will have to learn how to kindle your child’s interest. If your child has a favorite character, pick a series of books that include this character. Attempt to encourage your children to read real books not comics. The style in comics typically leaves a great deal to be desired with its slapdash English and street slang. As an alternative, go for series of books like Harry Potter or Tarzan.

You should build yourself a library of your own books. This may sound a little impressive, but after all, a library is only a collection of books. Begin with a good-looking bookshelf that you can easily add to. A skill like reading cannot be learned in only one place, so you cannot afford to leave all the difficult work to the day-school or even the after school curricula. You have to collect books that you think your child will like too. Use the Internet as a resource for learning about the modern reading games that will attract little children to the excellent and ancient art of reading,

Once you child is interested in reading for its own sake, you might read up on speed reading. Speed reading is best suited for educational revision and background reading. It’s greatly suited to cramming or studying for examinations. It is ideal for school and university. Nevertheless, the first job, before you can think about speed reading, is to get your child reading in the first place.

Are you interested in speed reading for yourself or a dear one? If so, please hurry over to our web site focusing on Speed Reading.
