SEM - Update

Companies are getting fewer results for a higher spend using time-honoured marketing techniques. So we have to look at updating our modus operandi. We all know it’s vital that all commercial organisations are on the web. Yet that in itself isn’t sufficient. Buyers MUST know how to reach you.

Picture a new retail premises opening up shop: It’s cost a packet to get to launch time. The staff are all poised - But the street is deserted, and they discover it’s way out of town. Nobody will know how to reach them. What kind of sales do you think they’ll manage? Almost all the sites on the web have the same problem!

Marketing has undergone a huge change because of the internet. As we left the 20th century, we all thought we had to have a web site. Getting a presence on-line became the be-all and end-all. Companies often spent a fortune on the latest features for their site. Naturally, web designers were very happy. Then it became apparent that no-one was visiting these sites. They’d thought that simply having a site on the web meant customers could see them. Nothing could have been further from the truth.

Modern internet marketing requires a fundamental shift in thinking from traditional marketing. Traditionalists might see your site in the same way they’d view a sales catalogue. So to drive traffic to that website, you’ll need to use the regular methods of marketing. They’ll recommend media advertising and promotions in the press. Sticking to the familiar routine. They start with a flashy sales site, and then try lots of ‘off-line’ avenues to get people to look at it. Yet in the web economy, this approach is way off the mark!

This approach purely sees the web as a viewing portal, which it isn’t. It’s a hugely dynamic environment with complex interactivity. Users drill down to investigate the services they’re interested in. In addition, terrific site indexes have been created by several major Search Engines (SE’S) so customers can find the things they’re looking for. Think of the chaos involved if the Business Yellow Pages wasn’t in alphabetical order: We’d be forever frustrated and disappointed.

The SE’s have got it all sussed. However, this means marketing is no longer the same. Now, if you wish to be visible online, you must be indexed by Google, Bing and/or Yahoo etc. Even that isn’t enough though. You might as well forget it if you’re several pages in!

So to bring in more profit and give all sites a chance to be top dog, the SE’s gave businesses an ingenious paid facility to promote themselves. You Pay Per Click, so you’re only charged for your ad when someone clicks on it. This created a lot of excitement… Basically, the only time you now paid was when someone who was already interested asked to look at your site. This is an incredibly targeted way of advertising, and done properly, can yield some exceptional results.

Alas, the market is bombarded with this form of advertising these days. Prices per click have rocketed in some areas. This is due to more and higher bidders entering the market. Today, it can sometimes be impossible to make a profit using PPC. This is particularly true if a lot of clicks are needed for every sale. So Search Engine Optimisation is now becoming a preferred method for many to get to page 1.

As an exercise: Go to Google or Bing RIGHT NOW and type in a few product or service keywords. Does your site appear in the first 3 pages of results? It’s very doubtful. In other words, you’re no-where to be found. If it is there, would clients really use those keywords?

If you’re familiar with paid advertising on Google, you might be reasonably satisfied. Are you managing your campaign well though? Are you getting the best return on your investment? Do you know what the most successful areas are - with accurate statistics to track and measure the quality of your campaigns? All truly successful Pay Per Click campaigns must be fully monitored and split-tested. Without accurate statistics, you can’t get the best ROI.

Global figures clearly demonstrate that commercial marketing is swiftly moving online. There is no other choice but to deal with it - and ensure you’re taking full advantage of all the opportunities.

Weight Loss Diets Simplified - How To Lose 20 Pounds

A good weight loss programme can be put in place simply by keeping a food diary. Begin by consuming your regular diet for seven days. Write down everything you eat and drink (be honest!) throughout the day. When a week has passed, analyse the contents of your diary. Try to identify any patterns where poor food choices are more evident.

Patently if your record shows a higher consumption of alcohol or fatty foods than you’d realised, you might begin by reducing those initially. Maybe your diet looks pretty good. But if you’re too heavy then you’re probably eating too much of it. Whether it’s the first or the second situation, you’ll be able to see how to adjust your intake from the entries in the diary.

Write down an Action Plan for the next week. On a blank page, write down detailed notes to cover the following: With regard to food, note what you can’t eat, and what you’ll only eat occasionally. Then make a list of food that you can eat freely.

Next comes drink - which often contains more calories than people imagine. Restrict alcoholic beverages to four small drinks a week, and write down the days you will have them. Rule out all sweet carbonated drinks. You’ll need to commit to a fitness regime, so next write in your diary which days you plan to exercise and how.

Accurately weigh yourself the morning your regime starts. Each week, repeat the process, modifying your plan according to the results you’re achieving. Make a note of your weight in your diary once a week.

With a plan like this, you’re in complete control. It’s a good idea to add useful comments each day to illustrate what’s helpful and what’s not. Mark down which days you completed your proposed exercises. Monitoring your weight and health is so much more manageable with a personal record.

Do keep your expectations reasonable though. At first, it seems to be all effort and no reward! Patience and perseverance are everything. Keeping up your motivation is sometimes tough, so try to dwell on the end result and the joy it will bring!

If you lose your way for a short while, try to get back on track quickly. It could be that you should look at altering your diet. There are some relatively easy ways to introduce more exercise. A thirty minute routine three times a week is a good habit to get into.

Recognise your successes. Dieting is much more motivating when you quantify your results and reward yourself for your efforts. Clothes shopping isn’t appropriate ’til you’ve reached your target weight. However, there’s nothing wrong with a theatre trip to celebrate a milestone.

SEM Simplified

Companies are getting fewer results for a higher spend using time-honoured marketing techniques. So we have to look at updating our modus operandi. We all know it’s vital that all commercial organisations are on the web. Yet that in itself isn’t sufficient. Buyers MUST know how to reach you.

Picture a new retail premises opening up shop: It’s cost a packet to get to launch time. The staff are all poised - But the street is deserted, and they discover it’s way out of town. Nobody will know how to reach them. What kind of sales do you think they’ll manage? Almost all the sites on the web have the same problem!

The web has turned marketing on its head. Around the time of the millennium, it was thought that having a website was everything. Complex graphical websites costing thousands (or tens of thousands) were regularly launched. This trend was cheerfully encouraged by on-line design companies, who relished the business! It started to become obvious though that these sites weren’t receiving any traffic. There was a belief that if you built it, they would come. In fact, this wasn’t the case at all.

A traditional approach to marketing breaks down on the web. An expert in old-style marketing would compare your web presence with a catalogue. Therefore, you’ll need to utilise all the normal marketing channels (print, radio, TV, media etc.) to drive traffic to that site. Basically keeping it within their frame of reference. Make the clever looking sales catalogue, and then promote it everywhere so customers want to buy from it. However, this process illustrates an absolute misunderstanding of website marketing.

The internet itself is not just a viewing portal. It allows us to search and research - to discuss ideas and interact with others. It’s completely interactive, bringing massive choice to billions of people. The Search Engines - such as Google and MSN (now Bing) - have made this easy for us as customers. They’ve put together massive directories to guide us. Just think how hopeless it would be trying to find something in a Business Directory with no index! How on earth would anybody get anywhere?

The SE’s have got it all sussed. However, this means marketing is no longer the same. Now, if you wish to be visible online, you must be indexed by Google, Bing and/or Yahoo etc. Even that isn’t enough though. You might as well forget it if you’re several pages in!

To solve this problem, and bring in a huge chunk of revenue for themselves, SE’s introduced paid advertising. And it has an interesting twist… You only pay when someone actually chooses your advert - hence the name ‘Pay-Per-Click’. It was revolutionary. Essentially, you now only paid for someone who’d already decided they were interested in your service or product. Pay per Click is a very well targeted method of marketing. With the right knowledge it can produce a good return.

Today however, most search terms are overwhelmed with pay per click adverts. New online marketers have forced up the price per click, largely through over-the-top bidding. So it’s often the case now that many are priced out of the market. This happens mostly where lots of clicks are essential to get one buyer. This has brought Search Engine Optimisation to the fore, where driving a site to page one is the goal.

As an exercise: Go to Google or Bing RIGHT NOW and type in a few product or service keywords. Does your site appear in the first 3 pages of results? It’s very doubtful. In other words, you’re no-where to be found. If it is there, would clients really use those keywords?

You could be relatively happy with PPC. But is your campaign properly managed? Is your investment really paying off? Have you got an eye on the stats that measure your results? Testing, measuring and split-testing are some of the most important factors with all PPC campaigns. There will always be an element of guesswork (and consequently less than perfect results) without accurate stats.

It’s very evident today that both global and local commerce are moving swiftly onto the internet. Companies must acknowledge this, to survive and flourish in today’s economy.

Slimming Diet Foods - Thoughts

Our BMI, or Body Mass Index is an indication of whether we are overweight or not. Our weight is thought to be right for our height if our reading is under twenty five and over eighteen. We have weight management problems if our figure is any higher than that. A BMI of more than 30 is considered obese. It becomes morbidly obese when the index goes over 40.

Calculate your personal body mass index with the following sum - Use a metric rule to measure your height. Then record your weight in kilograms. Your index is your height squared, divided by your weight.

For instance - say you’re 1.55 metres tall and you weigh 78 kilos, your index would be 32.5. The above illustration plainly shows that with those stats you would be designated obese.

The continuation of a diet that regularly includes highly saturated fat will keep on adding the pounds. The fat that’s already stored in our bodies will only be used up if we put less fuel (food) into our system. By eating healthy food we will make that system more efficient.

You’ll just feel unwell though if you plunge straight into a crash diet - and they rarely work long-term. Dietary regimes that propose a calorific consumption of no more than 1,200 a day are what we consider crash or ‘miracle’ diets. Speedy results can often be obtained, but they’re nearly always followed by more weight going back on.

Manageable healthy fat loss can’t be done in a couple of weeks. Losing up to two pounds a week can be achieved if you simply cut out five hundred calories or so a day. Not quick-fix, but much more likely to show a result in a year’s time.

Fatty foods tend to give us the biggest problem with weight management. So the easiest way to drop the calories is by cutting out fatty food. In its place eat more fresh vegetables and fruit. To fill up, try eating more wholemeal and grain. You’ll soon start to notice the health benefits associated with this change.

Trying to eat fewer meals to preserve calories doesn’t work. (Missed meals usually lead to high-calorie grazing). On the contrary, you should eat several small meals a day to prevent getting too hungry. Leaving yourself constantly hungry makes weight loss less likely. Your body can metabolise more productively when it knows it’s receiving small regular intakes of fuel. This allows it to get rid of excess fat more easily.

Search Engine Optimisation - Update

SEO is essentially a constantly evolving study of what factors the search engines take into account when they ‘rank’ you in their natural search listings. ‘Natural’ search listings are the main lists of results that come up when you search for something. They’re in addition to the PPC lists. The PPC (paid) entries tend to feature at the top and right side of the page. All the others are ‘naturally’ listed from the Search Engine’s index. Search Engines use algorithms to determine a website’s relevancy and importance. This is how they decide on which order to place them in.

Of course, we would like to be as high as possible on page one. If we’re the 7th listing on page 9 then we’re hardly going to get prospects beating our door down! It’s impossible to know about all the SE’s rank determining factors. It isn’t something they publicise to the rest of us!

So, over the years a complete industry has grown up around this. And so we have on one side Google and Bing purposely patenting different technologies. Causing much mystification about their methods! And then you have an industry built around SEO. This uses empirical testing and measuring of various factors to determine which ones are the most important.

Search Engine Optimisation deals with both on-page and off-page issues. Geography and demography are also factors that influence page ranking. To understand factors relating to off-page, please see our additional editorial.

SE ‘On Page’ Optimisation

On-Page SEO is all about changes you can make directly to a site to make it more Search Engine ‘friendly’. It involves ‘correctly’ configuring your website. For example: Internal-linking, using H1 & H2 header tags, seeding keywords at the correct density (and in appropriate places,) and to some lesser degree, using meta-tags.

Don’t worry if you don’t understand the technical terms. In reality, this is very easy to control, but not wildly effective. To be fair, it’s generally assumed now to have very little import indeed. Previously we could make an impact with On Page configurations. But that door has been completely closed down for several years now.

If a site has a lot of in-bound back-links though, on-page factors can still be beneficial. If that’s the case, internal linking and a certain amount of on-page fine-tuning can reap rewards.

A Few Handy Pointers… Don’t try hugely listed phrases and keywords in your early attempts at Search Engine Optimisation. For instance, if you typed into a Search Engine the term Car insurance, seventy million results would be listed for the UK alone. That’s a huge number to pitch yourself against.

However… If I typed in “Southampton Car Insurance”, then there are only around 300,000 results. (If car insurance in Southampton was my business!) So a much more realistic target.

The extended phrase makes all the difference. Trying to get a ranking for CAR INSURANCE would take a huge amount of time and money. My competition would be the huge corporations. Not the best way to do things at all!

It’s far better to choose phrases that are more specific to our offering. In SEO terms, they’re referred to as Long Tail Searches, as they include several relevant words. It depends on your competition, but long-tail searches can be up to 6 or 7 words. They’re usually around three or four.

In our opinion, phrases returning fewer than five hundred thousand results are a good start. (If the sites on the front page haven’t used SEO techniques, then we might go with bigger yields). As our back links increase, we’ll start to rate more highly on the bigger search terms as well. With some effort, it will be possible to have a stab at the big ones within a year. A line of attack like this makes business sense. Basically we zone in on people who are specifically searching to purchase.

Back Links should be shared between several web pages on your site and not just restricted to the Homepage. We call this ‘deep-linking’ - and Google in particular likes this. Try back-linking product group pages. They very frequently link up to a range of sub-pages, so driving appropriate terms to them can be very worthwhile. Thus - don’t restrict the back links to just one page. The managing and listing of individual sub-pages is receiving growing attention from the major Search Engines.

Tanning Bulbs

There are a number of tanning bed bulbs in every sun bed on the market. When you are getting a new, or especially a used or older tanning bed, make a careful examination of the lamps. Ensure that they are proper tanning bulbs and meet the FDA guidelines with regard to health and safety. You should also estimate how easy it is to get at the lamps. Make sure that the lamps are easy to change when necessary. It is very important, and a lot cheaper, if you can perform such simple maintenance yourself, if you buy a home tanning bed.

There are two completely different types of bulbs used in conventional and high pressure beds. Make sure you get the right sun bed bulbs for your sun bed, because you cannot use any bulbs you like. If you are purchasing replacement bulbs on the Internet, check the make and model of your existing lamps carefully. Ensure that the lamps you are ordering are suitable for your bed.

High Pressure Sunbed Bulbs: high pressure beds use quartz lamps in a variety of sizes. The gases used in these bulbs are pressurized to slightly higher than atmospheric pressure. The bulbs in these beds are located in the top of the bed, so that you tan from above only. When you have tanned the skin on one side of your body for about 10-12 minutes, you turn over and tan the other side. The flat bed of these tanners is a lot more comfortable than a conventional sun bed.

The biggest benefit of these lamps is the short time you need to spend on the bed. Because you tan faster, you need to spend less time in the salon, which means it works out cheaper. You can achieve the level of tan you want in about three weeks of three to five sessions each week. With a conventional bed, it would take you at least a month to achieve the same level of colour. Maintaining your tan is much easier too. You only need two or three sessions a month to maintain the colour, compared with that many sessions every week on a conventional bed. Many of these bulbs use UVA rays only, not UVB rays which are responsible for burning.

Conventional Sun Bed Lamps: Conventional, or low pressure beds use long tube lamps that look like normal fluorescent tubes. The lamps are located in the top and the bottom of the sun bed, which means that all the body areas are tanned at the same time, without needing to roll over during the tanning session.

Conventional beds use UVA and UVB rays in varying mixes. Some use both rays and others emit mostly UVA with some UVB rays. UVA rays are the cause of the (premature) ageing effects on the skin and UVB rays are the burning rays that produce skin burn when you are outside in the sun. It is very important to determine which kind of rays your tan bed’s bulbs emit. You must ensure you replace your existing bulbs with the same new lamps after about 1,000 hours of use.

Something else to think about when selecting the type of bed you use at home or in the salon, is the tanning bed lotion you will use. Different lotions suit different types of beds. The staff at your tanning salon can help you select a lotion that will be best for the bed you are using and your skin type. No matter what bed you use, you ought to certainly always use a lotion or a cream, because they will nourish your skin and help you get a Hollywood tan more quickly.

The Options - Effective Weight Reduction Secrets

Reducing the stress that so many of us suffer from in modern life, along with increasing the amount of rest that we take, might well help us to lose weight as well. Lots of us are vulnerable to stress. We take on far too many things and end up ‘chasing our tail’ every day. The tension rises as we bounce from one challenge to the next! And so we turn to eating, to counteract the pressure.

However, it now appears possible that there is a scientific correlation between times of stress and eating fattening food. Gaining weight because of stress does happen. Here’s the process that creates it: The stress hormone cortisol is secreted when the body undergoes long periods of stress.

Then in an attempt to stabilise our blood sugar, an insulin release is stimulated. This insulin release makes us feel hungry- particularly for carbohydrate and fat-rich foods. So we eat carbs and fats, and pretty quickly feel more energised.

Momentarily, we benefit from a lowering of stress, and we’re satisfied. Although within the merest hint of time the high has gone. The reason for this is the insulin takes the glucose that came from these foods and pops it straight into fat storage areas - such as the area around our waist!

Consequently we’d be well advised to de-stress our lifestyle before embarking on a new weight reduction program. It’s also thought that there could be a relationship between the amount of sleep we have each night and our weight. Typically these days we only sleep for at most 7 hours a night - whereas we used to get around 8.

Respectively, the level of obesity in our society has risen. There could be a hormonal link to the two factors. If we’re not sleeping for long enough, we develop an appetite for more food. Because we’re awake, our bodies are tricked into thinking it must be day-time, and so believe more food is needed.

Apparently tiredness leaves the body wanting more food - again particularly the sort saturated in fats and carbohydrates. Getting that extra hour of sleep back could just reduce our calorific intake, and our desire for too many of the ‘wrong’ foods.

To sum up - perhaps losing weight is more about streamlining our life than we had previously realised. It’s not the end of the world if something has to be left until tomorrow! Then when evening time comes around, enjoy a little me-time and then it’s early to bed!

Headache Medicine

When people get a headache they normally start searching for a medicine that can stop their headache from becoming much worse. As there are so many different types of headache treatment to choose from, people have to think about what they want the medicine to accomplish.

The headache treatments that can be found at the supermarkets and pharmacies come in various forms. You will find that there are tablets that you can swallow, other types of tablets that dissolve under your tongue, nasal sprays, suppositories, and injections that you administer. All of these headache medicine are known to be efficacious at preventing your headache from becoming worse.

When you go for headache medicine on a supermarket shelf, you need to decide how fast-acting you want the medicine to be. We are generally used to taking pills and capsules to cure whatever ailments that we have. We take these types of medicines because they are easy to take and easy to carry around with us.

Although these sorts of headache medicine do work for most people, it takes a little time for the medication to take effect, which is why any person who has a severe headache, like a migraine, will not gain advantage from these tablets or capsules. Also the different fast-developing headaches will not do well either with these medicines.

People who have a tension type headache, a slow-acting migraine attack or a migraine attack without nausea and vomiting, can try these tablets. There are tablets that you can take that are absorbed more quickly into the bloodstream. These so-called ’sub-lingual’ tablets or lozenges are placed under the tongue, where they get absorbed by the membrane that lines the mouth. These kinds of headache medication work somewhat faster than the normal tablets because they are absorbed directly and so more quickly into the bloodstream.

The other way that you can stop your headache is with a nasal spray. These sprays provide you with fast-acting relief. They are good for headache sufferers who need quick relief and they are also good for people who have the symptoms of nausea and vomiting. You may have to test various brands before you get satisfactory results, but these headache medications are still quite good.

The best possible pain relief can be got quickly from self injected drugs. However, if you use this kind headache medication you will need to take extra care at first, so that you don’t inject yourself with too much of the headache medication.

Other considerations are whether you can endure the discomfort that you may first feel when you want to inject yourself. The possible embarrassment about injecting yourself in public with your headache medication is also something that you will need to consider.

There is a vast amount of headache medicine for the person who is looking for ways to stop their headache. The best way to find an efficacious treatment is to test several products in order to see what works best for you

How To Lose Fat Naturally - In Detail

When you decide to change something in your life, setting goals and making a plan is vital. Planning for a successful outcome is the basic requirement of any endeavour. Nobody realises their ambitions without commitment to a strategy.

The most successful people on any diet programme are those who set themselves realistic, achievable goals to get them from A to B. Goals, or targets that stretch you somewhat are vital for consistent effort. An end goal, with mini-goals timed along the way will assist you greatly. Always specify your targets clearly.

To really get involved at an emotional level with the successful completion of your weight loss regime, compose a contract for yourself using the following headings: First of all define what it is that you wish to get from successful weight reduction. Make a collage of pictures that reflects these things, and look at them regularly (e.g. before your exercise sessions). The more specifically you define what you want, the better.

It’s actually desire that stirs us deep down. Think about why you’ve decided to lose this weight, and why it’s important to you. Identify whether it’s to build better relationships with the opposite sex, enjoy better health, feel more in control etc.

Commitment or Dedication: Set aside ‘official’ working-out times to help you commit to them. This prevents you from thinking about other things that you could be doing.

You will become more dedicated as a result of sticking to your commitment. Then others will see you mean business! Having a routine prevents you feeling stressed. It also frees up your mind to enjoy leisure time outside of those periods.

The purpose of a contract is to have written evidence of your Determination. It helps having a physical document that is there for all to see. Having your goals formally laid out gives you the Discipline to work at them efficiently. It’s also much easier to stay on course with good discipline.

The text is your working document and should be read every day for at least one month so you buy into it and it becomes your new way of life. Write down your goals in a specific and realistic manner, then work diligently and consistently to achieve them. Your successful weight loss regime will depend on it.
